Your Personal RRSP Plan has a wide variety of investment options. These include over 2,000 different Mutual Funds (virtually all with NO front or rear-end load), GICs, Canada Savings Bonds, Stocks, Bonds and much more.
With so many choices we want to make it easy. Your Investment Advisors have prepared a list of recommended funds for the individual investor. Simply select your funds from the recommended list below, or from the complete Investment Options List, then enter them on your application form. Here's how we recommend funds...
Please note, this is just a guideline — your personal investment needs will vary. If you are not sure about which investment is right for you, just call us at 1-800-387-9273 or email us at carl_spiess@scotiamcleod.com.
Life cycle funds | Equity funds | Balanced funds | Bond funds | Money market/t-bill funds | Global funds | Dividend funds
Our top recommendation this year for most payroll and pre-authorized contribution plans are Life Cycle/Target Date funds. These have replaced balanced funds as our best professionally managed "one decision option". These funds automatically rebalance over time, and then become more conservative as you approach retirement. See our special report on these funds at www.managedmoneyreporter.ca/lifecycle/. Our favourites are the Fidelity Clearpath Funds.

People selecting from this group generally want to hold more conservative RRSP investments. Balanced funds generally have lower risk than equity funds, because they hold a blend of stocks and bonds. Ideal for an all-in-one investment or to balance existing portfolios:
Mutual Fund | PAC | 1 | 2 | 3 | 5 | 10 | Risk * |
| AIM Canadian Balanced | AIM597 | 12.83 | -1.27 | -1.85 | 4.28 | 3.94 | 8.47 |
| Manulife Monthly High Income | EPL583 | 23.79 | 0.32 | -0.11 | 3.27 | 11.35 | 10.47 |

As you approach retirement, bond funds can provide the stable income required. However, yields have been so low lately that bonds & GICs might be a better option for any lump sum purchase:
Mutual Fund | PAC | 1 | 2 | 3 | 5 | 10 | Risk * |
| Fidelity Canadian Short-Term Bond Sr B | FID285 | 5.68 | 4.18 | 4.57 | 3.76 | 4.70 | 2.10 |
| Mac Sentinel Bond | MFC432 | 8.76 | 4.14 | 4.92 | 4.24 | 5.08 | 3.47 |
| Scotia Canadian Income | BNS377 | 12.02 | 3.38 | 4.15 | 3.84 | 5.74 | 4.36 |
| Bissett Bond Class A | TML200 | 10.28 | 3.14 | 4.09 | 3.63 | na | 4.54 |
Ideal for clients who are considering using their RRSP for a first-time homebuyers withdrawal within the next few years or as a short-term position. The following are historical yields. For current yields, see the Scotia Mutual Funds price page:
Mutual Fund | PAC | 1 | 2 | 3 | 5 | 10 | Risk * |
| Scotia T-Bill | BNS358 | 0.07 | 1.65 | 1.56 | 1.82 | 2.12 | 0.37 |
| Scotia Money Market | BNS357 | 0.29 | 2.15 | 2.06 | 2.18 | 2.40 | 0.40 |
Remember, Canadian markets make up only 3% of world equities. Ensure you have exposure to the other 97%. Our favourites include:
